Punjab education city to house two engineering colleges
Chandigarh: Private firm 'Rayat and Bahra Group' will setup two engineering colleges - one for girls and the other co-educational - at the upcoming Education City in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Vice-Chairman of the group Mr. Gurvinder Singh Bahra announced the decision here on Monday.
The vice chairman also said that the group's Medical City project in Kundli on the Delhi-Haryana border would come up soon in next few months.
The co-educational engineering institute would come up in Rayat Centre for Excellence at Sahauran campus.
Bahra told reporters that the Education City in Hoshiarpur will start operating in the coming session with a dedicated Nanotechnology campus in addition to the two engineering colleges and separate colleges for pharmacy, management and education.
In addition, the Education City will be equipped with a full fledged school and research institute which will provide a plethora of education facilities starting from primary to the higher level.
The Hoshiarpur Education City will be spread over an area of 50-acres which will be eventually expanded to a 100-acre all inclusive zone.
In the initial stages, the education city would enroll around 1,000 students in the first year. The city will provide residential facilities to students and faculties and would include 15 buses for transportation.
The city would also include a 100-bed medical college-cum-hospital which will be upgraded to a 750-bed unit in next five years. It would offer courses like MBBS, Dental, Nursing and Para Medical in the next session of 2009-10.
