Bhubaneswar, March 26, 2008: This evening, the 17th Annual Convocation of Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB) was held at the Institute Auditorium in Bhubaneswar. XIMB being a pioneering business school is ranked as one of the top ten B-Schools in India over the years. The Convocation saw one FPM student, 119 PGDM students, 61 PGDM (Rural Management) students, 47 Executive PGDM students and 116 PGCBM students being awarded their respective graduating diplomas.
This convocation saw the industry, academic community and other distinguished invitees rubbing shoulders. The chief guest for the evening was Shri. Shekhar Datta, the Chairman of Bombay Stock Exchange Limited. Also present were the Chairman of the XIMB Governing Board, Mr. Rajive Kaul, who presided over the ceremony, Fr.P.T.Joseph, Director, Fr.E.A.Augustine, s.j., Dean (Administration & Finance) and Prof. W.S.William, Dean (Academics) of XIMB.
The Convocation also saw the release of the 5th Volume Issue No.1 of "VILAKSHAN", the XIMB Journal of Management.
Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest and Chief Speaker, Mr.Shekhar Datta said, " there are only two things that are needed to enable one to lead a fulfilling life –'the wisdom to know the right path', and, 'the courage to follow it'." Exhorting the graduating students of XIMB, he added, "as you go about making your mark in your professional careers, remember that you have an obligation to the society, that has provided you an opportunity, to excel in your chosen field of activity. As beneficiaries of the wisdom that is the result of this great tradition, we owe a debt of gratitude to the society that gave us this chance to bring out the best in ourselves. So even as you scale pinnacles of professional success, never forget your obligation to the 'less fortunate' of our countrymen.
Mr.Datta further highlighted the role of the "Gurukul Parampara" as well as the concepts of "Truth, Dharma and Karma." He drew the attention of the audience to the scope and richness of Indian learning and civilization and how the ancient seats of learning like Nalanda and Takshila are testimony to the fact that India has always been a land of learning and knowledge. The first and second rank holders, Ms.Soumya Gayatri and Ms.Puspamitra Prusty were awarded the C.M. Kandoi Gold Medals along with a cash award of Rs.10,000 and Rs.5000 respectively. These medals have been instituted by Aditya Steel Industries. NTPC Gold Medals went to Ms.Soumya Gayatri for being the Lady Topper and Suchita Dikshit for HRM Area Topper. The Ravi Sharma Memorial Gold Medal for Best All Rounder was awarded to Mr.Tushar Bagla.
