Over 6 lakh students appear for HSC exams 2016 in Odisha
The state of Odisha will see 6,01,389 students appearing for high school certificate (HSC) i.e. class 10 exams starting today, 22 February, 2016. A total of 2882 centres have been set aside for the examination and a number of arrangements have been taken by the Board to ensure that the HSC examinations are conducted smoothly.

President of Board of Secondary Education of Orissa, Dakshya Prasad Nanda confirmed that the question papers had been given to exam centres and the District Education Officers (DEO) stated that the administration had taken initial steps in all districts across Odisha.
The Odisha HSC exams begun with the first language paper exam of class 10 today held from 9 am to 11.40 am. All other examinations would have same duration except Mathematics that would allow students 15 minutes extra. The provision of OMR sheets is expected to overcome any other shortcomings. Additionally, the superintendents may give a 10-minute break to students for collecting the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets during the examination.

BSE has given specific instructions to centre superintendents for opening OMR sheet packets prior to exams and verifying the number of sheets in the packets. Additionally, another 300 sheets will be kept handy at every centre. However, in case of any shortage in the OMR sheets, the invigilators may get in touch with the nodal officer or the Board headquarters.
The authorities have also set up two control rooms at Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack, the offices of directorate of secondary education for dealing with emergency situations. Besides this, all district collectors as well as superintendent of police (SPs) will make necessary arrangements. A total of 35,000 teachers will be a part of examination duty.
More security arrangements like 54 five-tier flying squads in district-level along with 50 squads in the board level for checking malpractice during the examinations have also been done.
Block development officers and tehsildars will be provided powers for crowd management near examination centres.
