Pilani (Rajasthan): Do you remember the storyline of the Shahrukh Khan-starrer movie in which he is sent to a High School for an undercover operation and then joins in the High School saying that his graduation was left incomplete due to household responsibilities?
A student from the Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS), Pilani has something very similar to tell.
Thanks to the flexible academic rules at BITS Pilani, an
engineering student of 1977-1982 batch who discontinued the studies after 7 semesters in the Institute, was re-admitted to the university in 2007 and he completed the B.E. (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) in 2009 by attending classes for 4 semesters along with present students.
Alam Ali Khan, 51, a Rajasthan Board topper hailing from Ranasar Village, Churu District, Rajasthan, got the merit admission to the Institute in 1977.
But due to domestic reasons, he had to discontinue his studies after studying for 7 semesters and joined as an English Teacher in Rajasthan Government Service though completion of
engineering was in the back of his mind always.
In 2007, Khan made a request to the University to re-admit him as a student. Based on the courses cleared by him previously, as compared with the present day curriculum, the university worked out the balance of curriculum which he needs to study in four more semesters as a full time on campus student.
Expressing his joy while participating in the Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, November 26 along with 2005-9 batch students, Khan said, "I am carried away by extreme joy and emotions to be here along with the present batch of students with whom I am destined to complete my degree after a period of 30 years".
