DU to offer vocational courses in association with industry

New Delhi: The School of Open Learning (SOL) of Delhi University (DU) will offer vocational courses from this year with a vision to improve the employability of students.

Minimum 10 vocational courses will be offered by the SOL wit the industry collaboration.

The varsity is already offering short term programmes as pilot project. DU has already collaborated with professional institutions specializing in vocational streams and other leading corporate.

"We are likely to offer at least 10 vocational programmes with industry collaboration from this year only. The areas include computers, BPO, insurance, retail, finance, media & entertainment, travel & tourism, automobile among others. These will be conducted by the Campus of Open Learning (COL)," said Deepak Pental, vice-chancellor DU.

Short-term certificate courses in 2D and 3D animation, radio jockeying and TV news reading, theatre acting and presentation in association with R K Films and Media Academy has already been launched by the COL.

Admission forms for the courses are available at the COL located at Keshavpuram and at SOL enquiry office on North Campus.

COL will also offer courses on insurance in collaboration with Metlife. Five programmes including automobile sale & services, software development & retail management will also be offered by COL in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

These three-year degree programmes on vocational stream to be offered by SOL will have a foundation course in the first year followed by the specialization on the related field in the second and third year.
