AMU professor presents paper on safety of bridges
Aligarh: Dr Mubeen Beg, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has presented his research paper entitled "Local Scour at Bridge Piers Placed in Transverse Arrangement" in the National Conference on Hydraulics, Water Resources, Coastal and Environmental Engineering (HYDRO-2009) organized by the Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH), Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS) Pune, Groundwater Survey Development Agency (GSDA) and UNICEF.

In his paper, Dr. Beg focused on the effect of mutual interference of bridge piers on local scour and recommended safe spacing between adjacent piers for the purpose of safety of bridges constructed on rivers.

Dr. Mubeen also chaired a technical session in the conference along with Professor Emeritus, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R) and former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (lGNOU), R. J. Garde.

Earlier Dr. Beg had presented his research papers in Netherlands and Singapore on the safety of bridges against local scour. He has obtained his PhD degree on the Effect of Mutual Interference of Bridge Piers on Local Scour.
