Aligarh: The Center for Women's Studies,
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized an on-the-spot poster making and slogan writing competition to mark the hundredth year of women's international day. Students from various educational institutions participated in the competition in a large number.
The prize distribution function was presided over by Prof. Irfan Habib, Professor Emeritus, Department of History and Prof. Ainul Haq Khan, Dean Students' Welfare was the Chief Guest.
Prof. Irfan Habib in his enlightening lecture spoke about the progress made towards the gender equality in the society in general and the education sector in particular.
Citing examples from AMU, Professor Irfan Habib drew a comparison of the situation of women students at the time when he was a student of the university and the present day university.
Prof. Irfan Habib appreciated the support and encouragement provided by the university administration and
University Grants Commission (UGC) in the activities of the Centre of Women's Studies.
Prof. Ainul Haq Khan attacked the orthodoxy and expressed hopes for a better tomorrow. He also talked about the cultural restrains on women, which still prevail in our society.
Extending thanks to the guests Prof. Moosvi hoped that the cultural restraints on women would be lessened and the society would adopt a more liberal attitude towards women for the advancement of India.
On this occasion, Prof. Ainul Haq Khan released the in-house magazine of PG Diploma students (Vision, issue no. 3) and the newsletter of the Center.
Prof. Irfan Habib and Prof. Ainul Haq Khan gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners of the essay writing and poster making competitions.
