New Delhi: On the verge of losing their jobs because of not meeting the minimum qualification laid down by the
University Grants Commission (UGC), around 300 adhoc teachers of the
Delhi University (DU) have received the go ahead for being reappointed as lecturers in the varsity.
The UGC allowed colleges under the University of Delhi to reappoint the adhoc lecturers who had worked in the last academic session even though they had not met the required minimum qualifications in a letter addressed to the Deputy Registrar (Colleges) of DU.
According to the letter, lecturers at the varsity presently working as teachers in ad-hoc capacity but not qualified according to the National Eligibility Test (NET) will be given a period of around 2 years, which means a total of 4 NET attempts, to qualify in the NET or State-Level Eligibility Test (SLET).
Also, UGC has directed the colleges and universities that teaching posts that are currently held by these teachers on ad-hoc or regular basis cannot be filled by someone else during the period of two years allotted to them for getting their required qualifications.
UGC had issued a letter earlier to the vice-chancellors of university on August 29, 2009as well, stating that teachers currently working in the adhoc capacity but not NET qualified will be given a period of two years to qualify in the NET/SLET paper.
This means that teachers have time till August 2011 to clear their necessary qualifying tests as prescribed by the UGC Regulation-2009. On April 20, 2010, DU had sent letters to principals of various colleges, asking them to abide by the UGC regulations.
Also, authorities of the University of Delhi had sent a letter to the UGC on June 28 this year regarding shortage of candidates who met all UGC regulations for the post of ad hoc teachers.
