NCERT grants copyright to 12 states for using textbooks
New Delhi: Bringing parity in the school curricula across the country, the National Council for Education Research & Training (NCERT) has granted 'Copyright' to 12 states to use its textbooks in their respective state board schools.

The states which have been granted the NCERT Copyright include Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Punjab and Goa.

31.3 percent of senior secondary level students will now be able to read the textbooks prepared by NCERT.

The move to grant copyright is in keeping with the mandate of National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005.

An NCERT official said, "The move would also do away with any disparities among the state boards and give students enough confidence to compete at the national level with ease."

The course content will be provided by NCERT and the state boards would be in-charge of getting the textbook printed and translating the content in their respective regional languages.
