Learn How You Can Afford a U.S. University Education
Representatives from more than 50 U.S. colleges and universities will help Indian students discover ways to pay for their education at the Hobsons Virtual Student Fair Saturday, August 27.

A university education is a big expense for anyone to incur, and the process of arranging funding can be intimidating. "We recognize that financial challenges exist for many students. That's why Arizona State University is committed to providing scholarship support to highly qualified domestic and international students, said David Burge, ASU's executive director of undergraduate admissions.

"Additionally, ASU continues to create interactive tools to help students estimate costs, plan budgets and search for scholarships and student jobs as they consider educational opportunities at ASU. We invite students and families to take full advantage of our online cost calculator, interactive student budget worksheet, scholarship search and more," Burge said.

Students attending the August 27 Virtual Student Fair will be able to ask U.S. universities about their costs and financial aid programs, as well as their academic divisions, research opportunities, and other areas of interest. Hobsons, the organizer of the fair, encourages students to educate themselves about the cost of a U.S. university education and their funding options before the event so that they can ask the right questions. Some key things to know are:

Total costs: The cost of a U.S. education goes beyond tuition. A university budget must also include costs for books, housing, food, transportation, and medical needs, as well as entertainment and spending money.

Personal/family funds: The majority of international students studying in the United States list personal/family funds as their primary source of funding. Determine how much you and your family can afford so you are looking at the right schools.

Funds from U.S. universities: Many U.S. universities offer scholarships and grants for international students. Look up the list of universities participating in the Virtual Student Fair at www.hobsonsevents.com/india, and review the schools' websites to get an idea of the types of aid they offer.

Loans: If you need to borrow money, you may need a U.S. citizen to co-sign for you.

Registration for the August 27 Virtual Student Fair has already begun, and students can sign up quickly at www.hobsonsevents.com/india. Hobsons also has set up Facebook and Twitter accounts for students to learn the latest news about the fair.
