New Delhi: The class X students although have their date sheet announced yesterday but there are comparatively less jitters experienced by them since the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made the announcement - "The percentage of class X students taking their board exams from this academic session will not be disclosed."

Call their 'mark sheet' now a 'grade sheet' as it will only show grades and no marks.

According to a presentation at a conference of schools at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) yesterday, the CBSE will switch over to the grading system from this academic session.

Marks obtained by the students will not be disclosed unless there is some special case.

"Disclosing the marks will mar the sole purpose of introducing grades. However, an exemption can be made in case if the student wants to shift abroad or if there is a recommendation from the principal," said a senior CBSE official.

Their evaluation will be based on a nine point system of grades ranging from A1 to E2 and further will be promoted to the next class, that is, class XI on the basis of grades.

Those who fail to get a qualifying certificate from the board due to an E1 or E2 grade will be given five attempts for improvement.

The decision also bore a stamp of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) where a CBSE official declared that the ministry may also direct the other boards to accept grades or the CCE card (to be distributed from the next session) if the student wishes to switch over from a CBSE affiliated school to another in class XI.

"A meeting was held between the MHRD and the Council of Boards of School Education last week to discuss the same," said an official.

However, the existing batch of class X will still not experience the changed pattern for the exams but the class IX teaching and evaluation method has already seen a change.

CCE is a hot topic of discussion among the teachers from all over the country as they all got a platform at the three-day press conference at IIT-D.

The conference will last until December 30 with education experts, principals and teachers presenting papers on issues related to schools.
