University of Madras holds first ever grievance redressal day
Chennai: G. Thiruvasagam, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of University of Madras recently announced the first ever grievance redressal day at the Senate House at the university.

The VC invited students to address their complaints and suggestions directly to him though a green box installed in the campus, if they face any trouble in getting their professional certificates, or getting the missing marks inserted correctly in their degree certificates.

Over fifty students attended the first meeting where they complained about non-issue of professional/degree certificates, the missing marks in their certificates and failure to get admission card on time among other things.

Dr. Thiruvasagam, after the complaint session was over, ordered his staff to resolve their problems on November 5 and 6. A separate wing in the PRO office would soon become operational from November 10, as decided by the VC.

Realizing a low-turnout during the first hour of the session, he announced to the reporters that from next month onwards, the first Monday of every month would constitute to be the redressal day and steps would be taken to ensure on-the-spot orders.

"The meetings will be held on a regular basis and will not be a one-time affair. Soon, a Public Relation Officer (PRO) will take-over the charge with the help of five other officers on a daily basis. The students will then approach the PRO to address their issues and get them solved at the earliest," said Dr. Thiruvasagam.

Students can also send in their grievances through email at muvcgreenbox@gmail.com.

"We have a planned mechanism to cover all the issues gradually. The redressal of problems is divided into two segments. The month of November will be utilized to solve issues relating to examinations held from May 2004 to May 2009 and December will involve problems from May 1990 onwards," he said.
