Chennai: Wavering of the tuition fees for postgraduate courses proposed in the State budget has been welcomed by the
Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers' Association (TNGCTA) as K.G. Palani, TNGCTA president, pointed out the irregularities in the fee structure.
According to a press release, the president stated that out of the seven government colleges, which were started in the last few years and were affiliated to the universities five were charging exorbitant fees as compared to the colleges run directly by the state.
He urged the government to ensure that the four colleges announced in the budget were run directly by the state.
He asked the government to start colleges in southern districts, which did not have government arts and science colleges while pointing out the presence of existing government colleges in three of the districts where the new colleges were being started.
Demanding regularization of services, the TNGCTA in another release, requested the government to negotiate with guest lecturers who were on fast for a week.
Nearly 1,000 lecturers had been affected.
