Chennai: Vice Chancellor Mayil Vahanan Natarajan of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University announced on Sunday that they will soon be beginning fellowship programmes in new sub-specialties.

"The university has recognized the huge cope of sub-specialties in modern medicine and hence it was decided that more fellowship and research projects in the various emerging disciplines should be availabe," said Dr. Natarajan while inaugurating a continuing medical education programme in Paediatric Dermatology hosted by the CHILDS Trust Medical Research Foundation (CTMRF).

The VC also announced that the varsity was examining another proposal from the institute so that a similar programme could begin on Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

CTMRF Chairperson, K. Mathangi Ramakrishna said that a balance between teaching and academic activity is maintained at the hospital.

The institute is currently pursuing 13 core research projects and had earned recognition from the Department of Science and Technology.

A souvenir was launched on the occasion by Prabhavathy, head of the Dermatology department at Madras Medical College.
