Madras University plans to go eco-friendly
Madurai: The University of Madras has decided to go eco-friendly by switching over from using electricity to solar power within a year to cut down on its monthly electricity expenditure.

"It is a one time investment which will require Rs.3 crore to purchase and install the solar equipment in the university campus," said Thiruvasagam, Vice Chancellor.

With the electricity bill escalating to Rs.9 lakh, he resorted to go eco-friendly.

The university's Department of Energy has been asked to chart out a plan to implement the solar power in the campus since using electricity raised their monthly expenditure exorbitantly.

The cost has been estimated by the authorities and will soon start the process to implement the new system.
