Focus towards real objective of education - Madras University VC
Madurai: The Vice Chancellor of University of Madras, G. Thiruvasagam at a national two-day seminar held at Yadava College on 'Renewable Energy Resources' in association with Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE), Loyola College, Chennai, in the city recently backed upon the opinion of critics on the lack of social relevance in higher education in India today.

"Churning out graduates from colleges and universities is no indicator of the success rate of higher education in India. What I feel is that the higher education in the country has lost its social relevance," he said.

Endorsing the view that a graduate or a PhD degree alone is not enough, he said that one should always look forward for solutions, which the degree will offer.

He urged the universities and colleges to ensure measures to enhance their quality of human resources.

"The real objective of education is yet to be achieved inspite of us having a good allocation of budget for education, seminars and several laboratories," said the VC.

M. Selvanayagam, Director, LIFE, said that, "In order to meet the rising demand we need to tap the environment friendly resources efficiently."
