Dr. Ambedkar Law College to be reopened

Chennai: Dr. Ambedkar Law College will be reopened soon, said Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on March 15. It was established in 1891 after the name of freedom fighter Dr. Ambedkar and has 118 years of legacy.

AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa asserted that the college had been closed from last four months. In a reply to Jayalalithaa, Karunanidhi said that the college was closed in November and reopened on December1.

After the examination got over, it was closed for Pongal holidays and reopened on January 18 to January 30. It was only when the students boycotted the classes all over the state on January 31 that the college was closed again.

"The college could not be opened due to the ongoing clash between the advocates and the police. But will soon be reopened," affirms Karunanidhi.

Earlier three students were seriously injured while others got minor hurts due to the clash between two groups of students related to caste enmity.

Seven students were detained for the same. Two police officers that included an ACP, were suspended for negligence of duty during the clashes. Four other police officers were transferred out of Chennai including Chennai Police Commissioner R Sekhar.
