More funds given for ocean and weather research

New Delhi: India will spend Rs.168 crore more next fisal for carrying out oceanographic and weather research, according to the Union budget tabled on Friday in the Lok Sabha.

The budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Earth Sciences saw a jump of nearly 14 percent to Rs.1,302 crore from Rs.1,134 crore last financial year.

The budgetary allocation increased by over Rs.100 crore for carrying out oceanographic research while it increased by Rs.40 crore for improving weather forecasting research.

The funding for Science and Technology Ministry increased by Rs.329 crore to Rs.2,369 crore from Rs.2,040 last year. IANS
