Jaipur: An international Catholic religious order known as the Society of Jesus (SJ) specializing in quality education will have a college named St. Xavier's, run by the Jesuits in the city offering only graduate level degrees initially from July this year.
Being the first college in any North Indian state by the Jesuit community after 69 years the flock first established it’s now esteemed St. Xavier's School in 1941 in the former Jaipur state with active support of the erstwhile rulers.
College manager Fr. Varkey Perekkatt said that, "Contribution to the human resources development in Rajasthan is intended. The college further aims to transcend the existing level of education in the city through expert faculty and thoroughly researched curriculum."
A separate registered body, Jaipur Xavier Educational Association, would run the college.
Located in the Hathroi Fort area the institution is affiliated to the University of Rajasthan.
Initially admission would be for 60 seats each in B.Com, BBA and BCA while from the next academic year onwards degree courses in English Literature, Political Science, Economics and others would be started.
"We are also looking forward to establish a separate campus for an engineering and business management college," added Fr. Perekatt
Fr. George Peter, its director, informed about the status of the Xavier Vocational Institute, which was set up three years back to provide job-oriented diplomas in over a dozen subjects to women, poor and the lower income groups would continue from the same premises.
Apart from Jaipur, St. Xavier schools exist in industrial towns of Behror and Bhiwadi in Alwar district in the state. |
