Panjab University offers dropouts chance to graduate

Chandigarh: Panjab University announced on Wednesday it will give students who dropped out of their courses mid-way a chance to complete their studies.

"We were working in this direction for a long time and now finally have decided to give a final nod to it. We are giving another chance to those students who had to leave their studies in the middle," Vice Chancellor R.C. Sobti told reporters here.

"This initiative will help thousands of students who still want to complete their studies. However, the only condition is that the same course should be in existence in the university," he added

Ramanjit Brar, a former student of the university, told sources "I was a MBA student in 2001 but I had to leave the course after one year due to some family problems. I am extremely thankful to the authorities that they have given another chance to students like me to complete their studies."

The university authorities have also decided to start online fee submission.

"From this session, students can submit their fees online. It would help the student fraternity in a big way and would make the things more streamlined," Sobti said.

An official at the university's administrative block said: "The facility of online fees submission is a welcome step as many times it is difficult for us to control the crowd. The huge rush also led to brawls and heated arguments among parents and students in the queues."

"This option would benefit most the outstation students as now they do not require to come here to submit the fees," he added. IANS
