Koraput, Orissa: The Central University of Orissa, which celebrated its First Foundation recently, has decided to implement several plans in the future for the development of the university.

According to the university Vice Chancellor Surabhi Banerjee, several new disciplines such as a Master's programme in Tribal Welfare and Community Development will soon be added to the new list of subjects. Also, several new schools of disciplines have been approved by the Executive council of the varsity.

On the occasion of the university's Foundation Day, Surabhi Banerjee informed that the new schools that have been approved by the executive council and will be added to the varsity include School of Education and Education Technology, School of Health Sciences, School of Bio-diversity and Conservation of Natural Resources, School of Legal Studies, School of Basic Sciences and Information Sciences and School of Development Studies.

The Vice Chancellor said that the university was making several efforts in order to provide a quality educational environment to both its students and the faculty.

"A large number of guest lectures have been organized for all subjects and a number of eminent visiting faculty members had been chosen and invited from all over the country to teach in the university," Surabhi Banerjee said.

To minimize the gap between the students that are pursuing various courses at the university and the eminent scholars of the society, the varsity has decided to provide its students the facility for video conferencing on its campus.

The Vice Chancellor also informed that the university is working towards infrastructural growth. The varsity had been allotted a 450.9 acre land at Sunabeda by the State government for construction of a main university campus and the work is in progress.
