New York: Soon there will be a breakthrough in the research process of genetics of fat storage in human cells. As far as this breakthrough goes, Scientists could soon mark the potential treatments for diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart.

Since, scientists have earlier understood that lipid droplets help to build up fat in human cells, the genes involved in droplet biology is the foremost topic of the research.

But to develop this kind of research, a team from California University and Gladstone Institutes of Cardiovascular Diseases has worked out a Genetic Screen to identify the genes responsible for fat storage in cell of fruit flies and potentially other species.

To pick out novel genes griping in fat storage scientists usually utilize RNAi screens to individually inactive all the genes in cells from above stated fruit flies. They in the ongoing research process found 1.5 pc of all genes function in lipid-droplet formation and regulation. These genes come out to be determinants of the size and number of lipid droplets in human cells.

Many such genes were studied in deep process and shown to profoundly affect droplet morphology and lipid utilization. Moreover, when the single genes were removed, the resulting human cells could be disjoined into 5 different classes, which are also the foundation on the number and appearance of the lipid droplets.

According to the Lead Researcher, Dr. Yi Guo, "As the screen work is completed, several fascinating questions are now arising. Such as: How are lipid droplets formed; what regulates their size, numbers, and cellular locations; do they help to traffic lipids within the cell; how does this cell biology relate to physiology and disease; these are early days in this area of biology, and the field is wide open".
