DMA medicos protest setting up of their rural counterparts
New Delhi: Protesting against the new cadre of rural doctors for the new course on medicine, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) and several other organizations have come together demanding from the government to consider the opinions of doctors and public before enforcing the project.

DMA president Dr. Naresh Chawla on Tuesday said that, "A workshop in the capital was organized recently where Chancellors of various medical universities, directors of health services of various states along with the officials of Medical Council of India (MCI) had no problem with the course and in fact they encouraged it. We disagree with this sort of agreement and protest by forming a joint action committee seeking the support of doctors, medical students as well as the public."

Terming the whole process as a misguided approach of the government he felt that it will potentially damage the populist measure and is expected to create more problems.

"We thoroughly oppose the decision of the government after going through its pros and cons and request it to re-consider the same," he added.

The demand list of the protesting doctors include better allowances and medical facilities for the medical graduates in order to encourage them to shift from metropolitan cities like Delhi to rural areas.

They have also asked them to strengthen the paramedical staff, health workers, pharmacists, lab technicians and others to help the rural public.

"Rather than creating a parallel system we require a consolidating the existing system," said the association in a release.
