Online system delays FYJC new session till mid-August

June 24, 2009

Mumbai: The introduction of the online system will delay the commencement of First Year Junior College (FYJC) for nearly 2-3 weeks.

The new session usually starts by July 15 but this year it will have to wait till mid-August.

With the new online system, the junior college admission process will be delayed by at least 21 days, resulting in the loss of crucial working days needed to cover the portion.

This will lead to difficulty in completing the syllabus by the teachers in time for the first unit test, which usually begins by August end.

"The admission process normally gets completed in 10 days but this year, it will be extended to 35 days. With Diwali vacations falling early this year colleges will have to postpone their mid-semester exams post holidays," said TA Shiware, Principal, KPB Hinduja College.

This may even lead to postponement of final exams as per the Principal.

"Double-check of every preference selected by students is being done manually by the staff to make it error-free," said Aatul Wadegaonkar, General Manager, Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL).

"This require a few additional days. Apart from this, due to the centralized nature of the admission process, we need adequate days to collect information from each college about vacant seats after every round of admissions and update it."

"The college generally commences by July 15, however this year it may extend till July end - we are not sure about it. It is a wait-and-watch situation for all of us," said Manju Nichani, Principal, KC College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

Even the 90:10 reservation battle in court may delay the admission process.

"Since this is for the first time some progressive steps have been taken, we should make adjustments and co-operate with the government," said Principal of another college.
