Mumbai University gets new vice chancellor
Mumbai: Rajan M. Welukar, an educationist with 25 years of experience in the field, has been appointed the new vice chancellor (VC) of Mumbai University, it was announced here on Wednesday.

Maharashtra Governer K. Sankaranarayanan made the appointment in his capacity as the chancellor of the universities in the state.

Welukar holds a masters degree and a doctorate in statistics. He had been serving as the Director of Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research & Entrepreneurship Education since September 2009.

The VC's post has been lying vacant since September 2009, following the completion of the term of Vijay Khole. Chandra Krishnamurthy is serving as the acting vice-chancellor of the university.

Welukar's appointment, for a term of five years, will come into effect from the date he assumes office. IANS
