BMC to open three junior colleges in Mumbai

Mumbai: The Bombay Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the IIT coaching classes is going to open three new junior colleges from this year.

All these colleges will be located at Vile Parle, Mulund and Dadar.

The buildings for the colleges will be provided by the BMC while the colleges will be run by the coaching classes . All three colleges will offer only the science stream.

All these coaching classes will not only prepare students for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), they will also hire regular staff for the college, including English and Hindi teachers.

Junior College at Mulund and Dadar will be running by IITian's Pace while Yukti Classes will run the other college at Vile Parle.

Each college will have 100 seats, of which 50 will be reserved for BMC school children, and the remaining 50 for students from other schools.

Abbasaheb Jadhav BMC education officer said, "Total 50 reserved seats for BMC students, 25 will be offered to those who have studied in a BMC school till Class X, while the remaining 25 will be for those who have studied in a civic school till Class VII.''

"We have plan to coach 50 students free of coast for IIT-JEE from each college who have studied from BMC schools.Fifty percent of their coaching fee will be borne by the coaching class and the rest will be borne by the civic body," added Jadhav.

The remaining fifty students who are not from BMC schools will have to pay the regular junior college fee. If these students wish to apply for IIT coaching, the fees will be the same as what the regular coaching class fee, which works out to Rs 2.5 lakh for two years, in case of IIT's pace-JEE.
