Pulapre Balakrishnan to be new CDS director
Thiruvananthapuram: Professor Pulapre Balakrishnan was on Tuesday selected as the next director of the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) here.

A CDS spokesperson said the decision to appoint Balakrishnan as the director was taken at a meeting of the governing body of the social science research and teaching institution.

The decision was based on the recommendations of a search committee constituted by the governing body and chaired by N.R. Madhava Menon, a member of the body.

The other members of the search committee were B.B. Bhattacharya, Goverdhan Mehta and Ramprasad Sengupta.

Balakrishnan is presently working as professor at the CDS and he will take over as the director December 15.

Balakrishnan previously was with the Jawaharlal Nehru University here and at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. IANS
