Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government-run educational TV channel will telecast documentaries produced by the BBC Motion Gallery for the benefit of the state's students, an official said on Saturday.

The 450 episodes of educational videos on history and culture, science and technology, and wildlife and natural history - totalling to 50 hours of content - will be telecast on the IT@School-ViCTERS (Virtual Class Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools), India's first dedicated educational channel, from May 17.

The video programmes produced by BBC Motion Gallery are renowned for their unmatched quality and depth of knowledge, said K. Anvar Sadath, executive director of IT@School - the technology arm of the state general education department - and the channel.

"This association with BBC Motion Gallery would certainly foster ViCTERS's search to provide world class educational contents to the students of our state," he said.

Fully operational since 2007, ViCTERS is now available in all parts of the state through cable network and beams programmes for 17 hours daily. IANS
