New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the next academic session will adopt an international character to its feather that will lead Indian education to reach a global platform.

All the CBSE affiliated schools in abroad will soon have an international syllabus, which the Indian affiliated schools are also free to introduce, as decided by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry.

While no change will be brought in the mathematics and science syllabus, language and social science will undergo complete overhaul, which will be finalized within a month.

A ministry official said that, "Stressing on activity based learning, the basic idea is to model CBSE on the lines of International Baccalaureate (IB)."

The next international academic session will see new syllabus for class I and IX after which every year the syllabus for new classes will be introduced.

Many west and south Asian countries already have CBSE affiliated schools mostly started by Indians, which is why a need was felt for these students to compete internationally by studying an India-centric syllabus.

"Thus, a dire need was felt for CBSE to introduce global Indian education," the official said.

The official explained the basis of change and said that there is no use teaching Indian history to international CBSE schools.

"Why is it necessary to teach only Indian languages in abroad schools? We should also lay emphasis on local and world history," said the official while adding that these schools would be having a separate syllabus.

However, India is expected to continue with existing CBSE syllabus and gradually shift to the international.
