Technical varsity to come up in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: In its endeavour to establish Himachal Pradesh as the hub of technical education, the state government has proposed to setup a University dedicated to the field of technical education.

The technical varsity would also manage professional institutions being setup in Private and Government sectors.

This announcement was made by Narinder Bragta, State Horticulture Minister during a conference organized here.

"A technical university would go a long way in main training the quality of education and regular updating of curriculum in view of the fast changing requirement of technical manpower in the country abroad", Bragta said.

The state government has already spent an amount of Rs.180 crores in the field of technical education.

An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is being set up by the Government at Mandi at a cost of Rs.707 crores.

A National Institute of Fashion Designing (NIFD) is also being setup by the Centre at Chheb in Kangra.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has cleared the proposals for establishing one polytechnic in the Government sector and three in the private sector.

Pharmacy colleges are also being set up at Solan, Paonta Sahib and Kullu.
