Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), after a Right to Information (RTI) enquiry by an activist, has ensured transparency while conducting the Combined Pre-Medical Entrance Test (CPMET), which was caught in controversies in the recent past.

After the RTI activist Dev Ashish Bhattacharya questioning the university authorities for not allowing the candidates to carry back their test booklet and copies of the OMR sheet as well as not providing the answer key online, now, after the enquiry, the authorities have agreed the above mentioned terms.

Students, unlike the past, are allowed to carry back their test booklet and the answer key is scheduled to be published online as soon as the evaluation of the OMR sheets begin.

A photocopy of the OMR sheets will also be supplied on the payment of Rs.50 to the candidates.

Due to repeated controversies, the entrance test which admitted students to medical and dental colleges in the state had become a suspect due to lack of transparency.

Quick to act upon the shortcomings and lack of transparency in the system, Vice-Chancellor Sunil Gupta carried out an exercise to identify the grey areas and worked upon improving it after various sections of people and RTI applications thronged in.

Gupta, on why details of measures had to be taken explained that, "Publishing results along with that of the answer key on the web would enable the candidates to carry out self evaluation of their performance. In case there is some discrepancy in the statement of marks, the candidates can always go for a revaluation which will take 10 days time."

He also added that he wanted to make the system as transparent and make all the information public so that there is no need for anybody to file any RTI query.
