New Delhi: Spreading its wings out of the national capital, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) will build a Rs.440 million National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus at Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, DSIIDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Chetan Sanghi said on Sunday.

"NIFT, Kangra is going to be a first-of-its-kind centre to be established in the country. The present infrastructure is not able to meet the objectives. The cost of the infrastructure shall be Rs.44 crore (Rs.440 million)," the DSIIDC top honcho said.

Sanghi said DSIIDC will build the NIFT campus over an area of 21,125 square meters, comprising a hostel for girls, and administrative and academic blocks, among others. Further, the corporation will set up sewerage treatment plant, rainwater filtration system and ground water recharge shafts.

The building shall be in compliance with green buildings norms like cavity in the building walls, roof top garden, external paths and corridors covered with poly- carbonate sheet, solar water heaters for the hostel, solar lights, energy efficient lights, low volatile organic compound paint and class of low heat gaining co-efficient.

NIFT Kangra shall have a Centre of Apparel and Textile Studies, the first of its kind established in the country.

DSIIDC is already constructing NIFT's extension building in Delhi. IANS
