Haryana to increase industrial training seats by nearly 100,000
Chandigarh: Seats for technical, industrial training and vocational education will be increased by nearly 100,000 in Haryana's Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the next two to three years, state government officials said here on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the intake capacity will be increased by 96,440 seats to enable more youth to get trained for vocations and find suitable employment.

"The government has planned to add the intake capacity by additional 96,440 students in next two to three years," Hooda said.

Giving details, he said intake capacity for 19,000 students would be created by establishing new ITIs, for 9,700 students by expanding the existing ITIs, for another 4,240 by building wings for students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, for 12,500 students by building new ITIs in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode and for 51,000 students by setting up new skill development centres under the PPP mode.

The student strength in Haryana has increased to 30,840 students in 118 ITIs and 11,176 students in 72 private ITIs in 2010-11.

Hooda directed the Industrial Training and Vocational Education Department to fill vacant faculty posts on a priority basis. He also directed strict adherence to the quality and norms by private ITIs.

"We should not let anybody play with the future of our children," he said. Hooda also asked for periodic inspections of private ITIs to check whether the stipulated norms were being followed.

The Haryana government has started eight new ITIs in the current session and 13 ITIs have been expanded. A total of 21 new ITIs would be made functional within next three years.

Haryana has established industrial estates in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Manesar, Bawal, Kundli and other places for which the requirement of skilled technical personnel is growing.

New industrial estates are coming up near Rohtak and other places in and around the National Capital Region (NCR). IANS
