Chandigarh: Government schools in Haryana will have management committees for their overall development and proper implementation, monitoring and supervision of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the state government announced on Monday.

The headmaster or principal or senior-most teacher of the secondary and senior secondary schools would be the chairperson of the School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs), an education department spokesman said.

One teacher each of science, social science and mathematics, one woman representative of 'Sakshar Mahila Samooh' in rural areas or one eminent lady in the field of education and three members of the panchayat or the municipal committee would be its members.

Fifty percent members of the SMDC would be females, the spokesman added.

The SMDC would be responsible for overall management and development of the school and ensure that provisions of the scheme of RMSA and other schemes of the government for secondary and senior secondary education were properly implemented in the best interest of the students.

The SMDC would review physical infrastructure of the concerned school and also assess the educational quality in the school by reviewing parameters indicative of learning level of children, the spokesman added.

The spokesman said the committee would function as an agency to support, coordinate, plan and review the achievements of the scheme in the school.

The committees will be constituted by the state government this year. IANS
