Gurgaon: The first community college in Gurgaon has been established at the Naya Gaon village in Sohna region.

The college has been set up and registered under the Community College Scheme of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The Navjyoti Community College would be offering courses with a 'credit system'.

The courses that would be offered by the colleges include English speaking, home care, interview and communication skills, computers, animation, web-designing, fashion designing, retail management, herbal plantations, general knowledge and law.

The fee that the students would have to pay for all courses would be Rs.500 per month.

Kiran Bedi, retired IPS officer and general secretary of the Navjyoti India Foundation has said that gradually, more such colleges would be established in Karala (near Rohini), Bawana (near Narela) and Jahangirpuri.

Kiran Bedi had visited the nearby Khedla villages on Sunday to make people aware about the courses and services being offered by the college. She said that she would travel across villages in order to motivate people to join the college and take advantage of its facilities.

The college that is spread over an area of 3 acres was inaugurated recently by IGNOU Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai.

For the English language course that is being offered, the college has tied up with the British Council. Also, the college has also tied up with Vedanta Foundation for computers and placements after courses as well as with Ozone Pharma for the training in Herbal Plantations.

Kiran Bedi added that they would also be organizing a "Placement Mela" and post the names of all participants on their official website so that they can find recruitments.

At the completion of a course at the college, students would receive certificates from IGNOU.
