Rajkot: The School of Translation Studies and Training (SOTST) successfully conducted a four-day training programme - National Translation Tainting Programme in collaboration with the
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre of Rajkot.
The four day programme was spread across 12 sessions covering the areas concept and paradigms of translation, official translation, translation and mass communication, literature and translation, problems in translation i.e. cultural, regional and dialectical barriers etc., banking and legal translation and many other areas of translation.
In all 47 participants covering eight districts of
Gujarat states attend the programme comprised a group with 26 participants from various colleges of higher education of
Gujarat state, 13 from Saurashtra University - faculty and research and seven from BSNL, Indian Railways and other professional institutions.
With 28 PhDs, 13 MA/ MCA/ MSc and reaming others made the interactions, group activities and practice session's grand success.
The recourse person were invited from Saurashtra University,
Gujarat Vidyapeeth
Ahmedabad, Indian Railways covering the themes of the programme.
The four day training programme was inaugurated by Director Campus, Marwari Group of Institutions Engineering and medical sciences in which Dr. Deo Shankar Navin, Director, SOTST, Former VC North
Gujarat University and other dignitaries were present. .
The valedictory function was presided by the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Kamlesh Joshipura, Saurashtra University, and Rajkot who lauded the role of translation in true sense and suggested that such programmes are needed in future too.
He assured the support of Saurashtra University in all such future endeavors.
As a unique practice to discuss and disseminate the importance of translation, Regional Director RC Rajkot arranged and actively participated in four live sessions of one-hour duration on Rajkot Gyan Vani with school faculty Dr. Jagdish Sharma and Dr. Harish Kr. Sethi as resource persons and participants in all the programmes.
The programme has a high level of interactivity. The programme was jointly coordinated by Dr. Jagdish Sharma and Dr. Harish Kr. Sethi at School and Dr. S Ganesan, RD, Rajkot at Regional Centre ends.
