B-School to bring Management Gurus to Goa

Goa: The Goa Institute of Management (GIM), presently ranked among the top 20 management schools in the country, is working towards a series of events which will involve celebrated global management thinkers.

World-renowned Management Guru Dr. C.K Prahalad and Prof. Anoop Madhok from the York University, among others, will be part of this initiative.

As part of the initiative, Dr. Prahalad will be travelling to Goa in the second week of January 2009 to speak at an event hosted by the institute on 'Global Restructuring of Industries. Is there an India Advantage?'

Top notch industrialists, the corporate community, bureaucrats and students are expected to attend the event.

"There is a significant restructuring of industries, be it the financial services, automation, pharmaceuticals, publishing or entertainment. Part of it is caused by the current financial crisis but the trends are as much driven by long term and enduring changes in technology, consumer expectations and globalization", said an official from the institute.

Does the Indian industry have the unique opportunity to reposition itself in this process of global change? What are the advantages that the Indian industry can leverage? How will this transform emerging Indian multinationals and what impact will it have on western multinationals? All this and more will be debated at the convention.

Management Guru Dr. C.K Prahalad is a professor, researcher, speaker, author and prominent consultant who in addition to serving as the Harvey C. Freuhauf Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan Business School, also specializes in corporate strategy for large diversified, multinational corporations.

Dr. Prahalad has consulted with some of the world's foremost companies, such as Ahlstrom, AT&T, Cargill, Citicorp, Eastman Chemical, Kodak, Oracle, Philips, Quantum, Revlon, Steelcase, and Unilever.

In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of NCR Corporation, Hindustan Lever Limited and the World Resources Institute.

In its efforts to strengthen its existing visiting faculty, GIM has also invited Mr. Anoop Madhok a senior professor at the Schulich School of Business, York University to conduct lectures at the institute, while encouraging him to do a sabbatical in Goa.

Mr. Madhok has taught extensively in management schools located in North American, Europe and Asia.

"As part of our value system at GIM, we emphasize on providing good quality education to our students. We encourage students to view an MBA degree/diploma not merely as a passport to a well paid job, but as a first step towards a good future career. Remuneration should come as a byproduct of value delivered. I'm sure our association with committed individuals such as Dr. C.K Prahalad and Mr. Anoop Madhok will add value to the institute", said Mr. Alan D'Souza, Director of GIM.

Alan D'Souza, who took over as the Director of GIM early this year, is one of the founders of the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA). He has been instrumental in setting up MICORE, at Ahmedabad, the first institute of its kind, dedicated to Communications Research.
