New Delhi: The new academic session commenced at Delhi Technological University (DTU), formerly Delhi College of Engineering, barely a month ago but the companies are already making a beeline to recruit DTU graduates.
In the month of August, 2010 itself, 18 reputed organizations have visited DTU for campus placements and offered jobs to 130 students. Last year, about 10 companies had visited DTU in the month of August for recruitments and had offered jobs to 68 students.
This shows a clear improvement in the placement scenario this year. In total 138 companies had visited DTU for placements in 2009-10 academic session and had made 683 job offers to about 461 eligible students.
The companies visiting DTU are from diverse sectors like software development, investment banking, defense, core, knowledge process outsourcing and financial services.
The recruiters include leading multi national corporations like Samsung, Cisco, Microsoft and Texas Instruments, to mention some. Even Indian organizations like Mahindra, Maruti and government bodies such as IOCL,
Indian Air Force and
Indian Navy have visited DTU campus for placements this year.
The maximum numbers of selections have been made from the field of Computer Engineering followed by Electronics & Communication Engineering and Information Technology.
The highest salary offered so far this year has been 10.49 LPA, which has been made to four students by a reputed MNC, whereas the average salary is around `6 LPA, which is also slightly better than the last year's average of `5.5 LPA.
The maximum number of students that is 33, have been recruited by Deloitte so far. About 10 more companies have already registered themselves to visit DTU for recruitments in the near future. Placements at DTU is a year-long activity and will go on till May 2011.
According to DTU Vice Chancellor P. B. Sharma, "DTU's strong linkages with the industry, enables us to prepare the students beyond the prescribed curriculum and as per the future requirements of the industry. This is primarily achieved through expert lectures by industry leaders and participation in activities of professional societies' chapters at DTU (such as IEEE, IET, SAE etc.).The inter-disciplinary focus of engineering and promotion of team work for design, innovation and new product development at DTU, further strengthens the competency and caliber of our students."
