Overhaul for reservation of OBC students at JNU
New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) standing committee on admissions will soon reconsider the reservation policy for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and is expected to come up with a new formulation according to the directives issued by the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD).

The decision to evolve the new OBC policy was taken at the meeting of the Academic Council (AC) held late in the night on Thursday.

The meeting was put off after asking the standing committee to come up with a new policy for reservation.

The ongoing admission procedure at the university permits 27% OBC reservation for students.

Seeking a 'fair' OBC reservation policy, the Forum for Demanding Implementation of Reservations had been on hunger strike on the pretext that due to coarse misinterpretation of the definition of 10 marks reduction in cut-off, the pool of eligible OBC candidates for admission would continue to remain drastically reduced.

"The dean of schools would soon receive the standing committee report for approval," said an AC member.
