New Delhi: The Forum for Defending and Implementing Reservations on Tuesday announced that it would hold a protest to demonstrate this Thursday while the JNU Academic Council meeting takes place, alleging the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration for not following the procedure of admission for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) students.

The Forum members alleged JNU authorities for implementing only 10% quota system, which was officially fixed at 12% since 2008, leaving 54 of 210 seats reserved for OBCs vacant.

It has also come into their notice that in 2009, 18% reservations for OBCs were designated to the university out of which only 14% were filled and the rest were transferred to the general category.

The protesters alleging JNU authorities for not adhering to the procedure while deciding the admission cut-offs for OBC candidates cited the Supreme Court cases and one 2008 Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry directive on cut-offs.

"Deciding the cut-off marks in advance is mandatory for the university authorities which was not the case with JNU," claimed the Forum in a release.

"Not minding the university's own standards of education, the cut-off varied across disciplines according to the performance of different batches in general category," it added.

It thus concluded that the fate of the OBC candidates depended upon the performance of general category students.
