HRD ministry for quality education in madrasas
New Delhi: The union human resource development (HRD) ministry has set up a consultative committee for implementing a scheme for providing quality and modern education at madrasas, officials said on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of madrasa teacher associations, representatives of state madrasa boards, officials from state governments, headed by Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal held on Monday to discuss the implementation of scheme.

The scheme so far has benefited over 10,522 madrasas and 26,755 teachers, introducing modern subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Hindi and English in madrasas and providing financial assistance for teachers, teacher training, libraries, science and computer labs.

The scheme also provides for linkages with National Institute of Open Schooling for assessment and certification of regular curricula as well as vocational education.

The consultative committee has 21 members, including representatives from teacher associations, madrasa boards, state government officials and HRD officials. It will meet twice a year to discuss and streamline various implementation issues of the scheme. IANS
