Delhi school wins national Limca quiz

New Delhi: The Delhi Public School in Rohini on Monday won the national finals of the Limca Book of Records Quiz 2008, held at the R.K Puram branch of the school in the national capital.

The team comprising Jai Bassi and Eishit Gupta was declared the national champions.

The DPS-Rohini was followed by St. Augustine Day School, Kolkata, and Army School, Mumbai, as the first and the second runners-up, a release issued jointly by the Coca Cola, DPS and the Derek O'Brien & Associates said.

Five schools vied for the coveted national quiz championship. These were Delhi Public School (Rohini), Delhi; St. Augustine Day School, Kolkata; Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao School, Chennai; Army School, Mumbai; and DAV Model School, Chandigarh.

The winners were felicitated by Shyama Chona, principal of Delhi Public School, and Atul Singh, president and the chief executive officer of Coca-Cola.

Limca Book of Records Quiz 2008 aims to promote knowledge and awareness among the young students in the country. According to Chona: "Initiatives like the Limca Book of Records Quiz are an ideal learning platform for students."

The multi-city initiative was launched in partnership with Derek O'Brien & Associates, a knowledge platform, with a participation of over 125,000 quizzers from Class VIII to Class XII.

As part of the initiative, a series of quiz competitions were organised across 260 schools in seven cities - Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Ludhiana.

The quiz was organised in three stages - Intra-school, Inter-school & National Level, was spread over a period of five months - August to December 2008. IANS
