DU soon to add a new college to its wing
New Delhi: With Delhi University's (DU) Deshbandhu College (Evening) getting transformed into Ramanujan College, which would be primarily focusing on mathematics, information technology and business studies, the university is all prepared to get a brand new college under its umbrella.

"The proposed college is expected to be ready in two years time," said Deshbandhu College (Evening) Principal Dr. S.P. Aggarwal.

The proposal to separate the Morning and Evening Colleges was consented at a DU Executive Council meeting held last December which further suggested its name as Ramanujan College.

"The proposed college would be under the umbrella of DU and will share seven acres of land from the existing Deshbandhu College which has a campus area of 17.46 acres out of which the Morning College occupies 10.46 acres," said Dr. Aggarwal.

The proposed college would function as an independent regular college once the building plans, whose layout is ready, receives the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) nod.

Voicing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the college which functions in both the shifts, Dr. Aggarwal said that, "Both the Morning and Evening colleges share a common building and facilities. There's a lack of infrastructure to fulfill the requirement for them to function properly. The timings of both the shifts usually over-lap while the issue of repairs comes under a disputed territory as both of the administrations remain uncertain about the responsibility. There's always a chance of recurring conflict of interest which is why we have resorted to use the extra land and asked for separation."
