DU semester tussle - Teachers to write to VC
New Delhi: The tiff between teachers and the administration of the Delhi University over the implementation of the semester system is refusing to die down anytime soon.

The Faculty of Social Sciences decided on Monday to write a letter to the Vice Chancellor of the university regarding his "authoritarian style" of functioning for implementing the semester system at the varsity.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The new syllabus for social work under the semester system was also passed at the meeting.

The faculty has decided to meet again in the first week of June to take a decision on the rest of the syllabus under the semester mode.

Faculty of Social Sciences dean Nandini Sundar said that the syllabus for the new social work course under the semester system had been passed at the meeting.

"The teachers also discussed the last resolution of the Academic Council and objected to its decision for giving the power to approve the rest of the courses for semester system which are yet to be approved to the vice chancellor," she said.

The university administration was also condemned at the meeting for the way it had conducted itself in approving the syllabi under the semester mode and for sending "intimidating" letters to teachers.

Sundar added that they were also going to raise the issue of the teachers being "victimized" by the administration over the implementation of the semesters. "We will also object against the way the administration of the university has responded to the concerns of the departments and faculty," she stated.

There are nine departments in the faculty of social sciences. These include political science, sociology, economics, geography, East-Asian studies, etc. No department under the faculty except the Social Work has submitted the syllabi under the semester system.
