| DUTA keeps anti-semester stance as VC's term expires August 31, 2010 New Delhi: As the five-year term of Delhi University (DU) Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental expires today, teachers at DU are refusing to let the issue of the semester system being implemented at the varsity come to rest. In an executive committee meeting of the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) held on Monday, the DUTA decided to extend their plans to hold demonstrations, strikes as well as dharnas for 17 more days. The teachers who attended the meeting also decided that they would continue the protests against the implementation of the semester system for undergraduate science programmes and also render the varsity non-functional if Deepak Pental is reconstituted as the Vice Chancellor for another term. The University played witness to disruptions of its regular functioning due to protests by the DUTA during the past 15 days. DUTA President Aditya Narayan Mishra said that they would continue protesting until the semester system is done away with. |
