New Delhi: In order to give a patience hearing to the agitating students and also to hear the voice of those who are not participating in agitation, and to resolve the ongoing agitation on the issue of upgradation of DCE to DTU, a meeting of Board of Management (BOM) has been convened today, March 19, 2010 at 11 a.m., an official release from the varsity said.
"At this meeting, the BOM shall be apprised of the happenings including the reschedule of the mid-semester examinations of B.E/B.Tech. courses due to low attendance on first two days and continuation of the agitation despite patience hearing of the grievances of the representatives of agitating students by the University authorities, detailed dialogue at the level of Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and despite all counsel, advise and appeal made to the agitating students," the press release said.
It was considered necessary that their grievances, if any, should be heard at the level of BOM, the highest decision making body of the University so that the ongoing agitation could be settled and apprehensions of student community are amply clarified.
The varsity added that, "It goes without saying that the way the misguided and misinformed agitating leaders have used SMS and emails, cyber war to spread hatred, confusion and fear both among community of innocent students and teachers, speaks volumes about the instigation and involvement of outside agencies, whose primary interest could be perceived as degenerating and destroying the credibility of erstwhile DCE which is now a Technological University."
"It is also not a mere coincidence that having celebrated E-Summit-2010 (February 16-17, 2010), Engifest-2010 (February 18-22, 2010) and Technical Festivals (February 22-25, 2010) of DTU with great success the Students Association functionaries started their agitation on March 4, 2010, on the eve of the court hearing of the case of the former President of Teachers Association of DCE, who has challenged his retirement which was due on December 31, 2010. The concerned teacher has already superannuated."
The varsity also alleged that the President of the Students Association of DTU, Mr. Ravishekhar appeared in the interviews of six companies but failed to secure a job for himself. "How can he claim that placements have been poor and blame the University for his own Incompetence, when 514 job offers from reputed companies have been received by the final year students?"
Further, considering the representation given by Mr. N.K. Bhagat, lecturer, Electrical Engineering Deptt, DTU, his suspension has been revoked.
Mr. Bhagat has assured his "best possible support as a Teacher", to the University authorities.
