Chandigarh: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has been asked by Justice Ranjit Singh of Punjab and Haryana High Court to take action against profit-oriented institutes that have been unsuccessful in delivering good quality education in the field.

The court granted students to seek exemplary costs from one such institution and questioned the NCTE as to how they had granted affiliation to such institutes in the first place.

Justice Ranjit Singh came down upon the NCTE for granting affiliation to institutions that were running educational "shops" and said that the institutions may have sought affiliation via other means that are not legally permissible.

"NCTE must take an action against thee institutions as soon as possible by derecognizing them or withdraw their affiliated status so that in the future, such institutions do not dupe students and ruin their career as well as life," said Ranjit Singh.

Justice Singh also came down upon the institutes that have ruined a year in the life of students by misleading them. He asserted that students who had enrolled for the B.Ed course are entitled to seek cost of damages from fake institutions.

"Students are free to seek compensation via any means, and it should be exemplary so that greedy people are taught a lesson about misleading innocent students and ruining their careers," he said.
